Pure Appleton Energy – Mile of Music Lights Up Jones Park with Feed the Dog & Wurk!
If you’re wondering if there’s any buzz left in Appleton on a Thursday night during Mile of Music, let me assure you: it’s alive and howling! Last night, I checked the calendar for “live events near me Appleton WI” (routine at this point) and couldn’t resist the call of Jones Park. You just know when the stage lights up there, something special is about to happen.
Jones Park was jumping with folks who know their music, their brews, and how to appreciate these magical Fox Valley nights. You could feel the local pride right from the first riff—lots of Appleton regulars, festival weekenders, and musicians themselves sprinkled through the crowd. The fresh air was so thick with excitement, you could practically taste the upcoming guitar solos.
Feed the Dog—let’s talk about this crew. Hailing from Wisconsin, Feed the Dog is known for blending soulful Americana, jam-band improv, and an absolutely infectious love of pleasing the crowd. These guys are not just playing—they’re feeding off the energy, cracking jokes, and bending strings until it seems like every note’s alive. Banjo, fiddle, guitar, percussion—they’ve got a full spread, and their harmonies are so tight you’ll swear it’s a family reunion up there.
Within a couple of tunes, they had Jones Park grooving, swaying, and even a few folks doing their best “Friday night, but who cares it’s Thursday” dance moves. Appleton loves a good jam, and Feed the Dog delivered with originals and enough jams to make your sneakers sticky. The highlight? Their cover medley that veered from bluegrass to rock…there was even a sneaky bit of Dead, if you were listening close!
But wait—we weren’t done. Enter Wurk: another Wisconsin sensation, known for their funky, jazz-infused jam sound and a stage show that snapped everyone to attention with a blast of energy and groove. Suddenly, it was a two-band bonanza with the kind of crowd energy you’d expect at the festival’s peak. Saxophone solos, funk bass riffs, and a frontman who can work the crowd as easily as he works his instrument. By now, Jones Park was a giant block party.
Here’s the thing: Appleton’s nightlife is thriving, and Mile of Music is proof that “things to do in Appleton WI” doesn’t mean settling for just “okay.” Whether you were front row with your buddies, lounging on the hillside, or chasing a toddler to the rhythm of the beat, everyone left with a story.
Live music, perfect weather, two killer bands—can we just call it the Fox Valley prescription for happiness?
