When your phone rings on Labor Day Monday with an invitation to join an impromptu boating adventure in Fremont, there is only one acceptable answer: Count me in. By 11:00 AM, we were in Fremont, jumping into the boat, and heading up the Wolf River for a full day of live music, waterfront drinks, and endless laughs.
Our first run took us upriver to the old Hahn-A-Lula Resort, which is currently transitioning into Big Franks Resort. Pulling up to these iconic river spots always hits a little differently for me. Having grown up coming to these bars as a kid, stepping onto the docks brings back a wave of memories. It is a weird feeling, but in the best way possible—it genuinely feels like coming home.
We grabbed a few drinks and hung out on the patio to soak in the atmosphere. The music was already rolling with a duo called Star Fire rocking the crowd and setting an awesome tone for the holiday weekend.
Once we finished up our drinks, we hopped back in the boat and headed further upriver to check out Nauti Turtle. The outdoor patio was buzzing as Big & Tall was banging out tunes for the crowd. We ordered some food and drinks, kicked back, and enjoyed the energy on the water.
From there, we finished up and made our way to Bridge Bar to catch Mike Mcabee. A huge bonus for everyone out on the river: the bridge is fully open again! Having full clearance makes moving along the river smooth and stress-free, which is fantastic for local boaters.
Every musical act we caught was great, the weather was unbeatable, and being on the river is always an absolute blast. The crew was fantastic, and the day was packed with non-stop laughs and great runs along the water.
If you ever get the chance to boat on the Wolf River, don't pass it up—you have to do it.
