If there is one thing we take seriously in Northeast Wisconsin, it’s the Friday night fish fry. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a weekly ritual, a community cornerstone, and—if you’re doing it right—a true test of how much deliciousness one human can handle.
Last Friday, I decided to satisfy my craving for the classic supper club experience. I headed over to Michiels Bar & Grill in Menasha, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
Walking into Michiels feels like stepping into a piece of Wisconsin history. With its iconic A-frame architecture and that warm, welcoming atmosphere, it’s exactly the kind of place you want to be when the weekend finally hits. Whether you’re looking for the best restaurants near me in Menasha, WI, or just trying to dive into the local Menasha nightlife, this spot is a local legend for a reason.
I went straight for the gold: the all-you-can-eat haddock. The fish dinner is priced at $24.00, which is a great choice when you factor in the incredible soup and salad bar. The salad bar is expansive, featuring a fantastic variety of fresh options, crackers, and dips to get your appetite prepped.
And the soup? They had two styles, but I went for the clam chowder. It was, in a word, fantastic.
Then, the main star arrived. The haddock was light, flaky, and incredibly tasty. I paired it with a twice-baked potato that was loaded with bacon and flavor—rich, creamy, and the perfect companion to that crispy fish. They even set me up with a fresh basket of bread and some high-quality butter that really elevated the whole experience. I also enjoyed a Brandy Old Fashioned, which was $7.50.
I’ll leave it to you to decide if that hits the mark for your Friday night budget, but for the amount of food and the quality of the experience, it certainly made for a memorable night.
Whether you are a local looking for things to do in Menasha or you're just hunting for the top food events in Menasha, Michiels is a must-visit. Between the cozy, retro interior and the friendly service, it’s the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a true Wisconsin tradition.
I’m already planning my next trip back. Who doesn't love an endless supply of perfectly fried fish?
