If you’re looking for the heart of the Fox Valley music scene, you usually don't have to look much further than a guy named Rocky. This past week, I headed over to Maloney’s in Kaukauna to see the man himself, Rocky Erickson, do what he does best.
Now, if you haven’t met Rocky, you might know him as the mastermind behind Rocky and Tara’s Nut House—which, for those living under a rock, is basically the HQ for live music and legendary "Testicle Festivals" out in the Dundas area. But when he’s not running his own show, he’s out on the local stage, and the night at Maloney’s was a prime example of why he’s a staple in this community.
The energy was loose, the crowd was lively, and Maloney’s provided that perfect "hometown bar" backdrop where anything can happen. And "anything" usually involves other local musicians crawling out of the woodwork. It turned into a bit of a local all-star jam session, with several other artists jumping on stage to trade licks with Rocky.
Rocky has a way of leading a room that feels less like a concert and more like a rowdy backyard party with a really good sound system. He’s a veteran of the scene, and it shows in how he handles the unplanned chaos of guest performers. Whether you’re there for the guitar work or just the storytelling, a Rocky show is a unique Kaukauna experience.
I’ll let the footage speak for itself—check out the photos and video clips below to see the guest appearances and the overall vibe of the night. If you’re scouting for things to do in Kaukauna or checking out the Kaukauna nightlife, you really can’t go wrong when Rocky is on the bill.
