Sturgeon spearing season opens and Paynes Point Hook & Spear Club brings the party to the frozen lake by adding a huge tent to the club. They usually have bands Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for Sturgeon Spearing. I headed out and met my friends on Saturday night. As I pulled up most of the parking was on the road which was crazy full. I think people were a little worried about parking on the lake with the warm weather we had. So a short walk to the club and the tent was already loud before I got in. There was a tent about 50 x 150ft and it was packed. It was fun because I ran into a lot of people I had not seen in a while. We walked to the back of the tent and got a few beers. $3 for the beer, so that was a plus. They had the Grand Union band set up at the front of the tent close to the club. The only real problem was they had them at ground level without a stage. So they were almost impossible to see. They have a new singer and from what I could tell, she sounds good. It was hard to hear the band. Overall it was a good time. The band only played till 9pm. So we decided we were going to leave a little early and head to see Road Trip playing in Menasha. Paynes Point Fisheree is always fun. Put it on next year's to-do list.Â
