Saturday started off with a simple plan: a quick trip to the Green Bay Home Show. It’s always fun to get inspired by home designs, but after we finished browsing, my friend and I felt the need for more adventure. So, we decided to keep the day going and headed to Wequiock Falls County Park, just north of Green Bay.
Wequiock Falls: Nature’s Beauty, Even When Dry
The park itself wasn’t anything extravagant – small but quaint, with a nice view overlooking the Bay of Green Bay. We made our way to the creek, and a few locals mentioned it was pretty dry. Sure enough, the falls weren’t much more than a trickle, but that didn’t take away from the natural beauty of the place. The area is still peaceful and picturesque, and you can walk down into the creek bed to look up at the falls. I’m sure after some rain, this spot is breathtaking. Even without much water, it’s a perfect place for a quiet moment with nature.
Sturgeon Bay: Tugboats, Live Music, and a Patio Surprise
Feeling the urge to keep exploring, we hit the road for Sturgeon Bay. Along the way, we stopped for some quick lake views – you just can’t beat Wisconsin’s scenic charm. Once we reached Sturgeon Bay, we headed for the river and found the shoreline filled with tugboats. Our first stop was the Maritime Museum, but it was closed for the day. Still, the views and weather were perfect, so no complaints there.
As we wandered around the area, we met a friendly couple who recommended we check out a band called The Droors at Stone Harbor’s patio. They also gave us a tip on where to eat: Kitty O’Reilly’s or Nightingale Supper Club. We decided to do both!
Stone Harbor’s patio was buzzing with energy, and The Droors brought the perfect soundtrack to the evening. See the full story about the Droors.
After enjoying some live music, hunger kicked in, so we headed over to Kitty O’Reilly’s. From the outside, it looks like a typical Irish pub, but the back patio is a stunning hidden gem. With vibrant plants and beautiful décor, it felt like an outdoor oasis. We shared the surf and turf, and it was so good that I completely forgot to snap a picture before we devoured it!
Final Thoughts: A Day of Unexpected Fun
This spontaneous Saturday adventure turned into one of those days you’ll remember for a while. From a dry waterfall to live music and delicious food, it was a day full of surprises that reminded me how much there is to explore in Wisconsin. Whether you’re planning or just winging it, this state never disappoints.
