Time for an island vacation?  How about some islands closer to Wisconsin?  Lake Erie islands are a fun spot to check out. Located east of Toledo Ohio.  We took the Miller Car ferry from Catawba Island. Over to Middle Bass Island. We stayed at St Hazards Resort on Middle Bad Island.  Middle Bass Island is one of 4 US islands just south of the Canadian Border.  Out of the islands Put in Bay is the most popular. With a large Marina, a large number of shops and bars.  We were looking for a little quieter location with covid going on.  So, we decided to go to Middle Bass. We found a condo at a St Hazards resort.  We were on the 3rd floor of the resort. Very cute little condo with amazing views of the lake.  The resort could use allot of updates.  But overall are condo was clean and a nice setup. We had a beach about 300 ft from the front entry of the condo.  The beach was very nice and beautiful but it is very rocky. I would suggest water shoes.  There is also a pool and tiki bar just down the road that is part of the resort. They have it set up tiki style with live bamboo, palm trees, large wood carvings, and a fairly large pool.  This is where we spent most of our time.  Lonz Winery and the state park are located at the East end of the island were the ferry comes in.  We took the kids and walked around the winery building and the park.  Just North of the winery is the Lonz family home and old boat house / launch. It is fun to see and think about how this and the huge old house looked way back in its prime. Hopefully someday it will be brought back to it grandeur. There are some nice trails that you can walk through the park by the house and along the North & East shore of the island.  We took one day and went over to Put in Bay / South Bass.  There is a ferry boat called the Sonny S that takes you across the lake for $7.  We avoided the shops and bars and rented a golf cart to explore the island.  We ran across the island to check out South Bass Island Light House Point. The light house looked pretty rough and was boarded up. They have a new steel tower with an automated light now.  We than went to South Bass Island State Park and checked that area out.  There is a nice beach here but again stone not sand.  Jet ski's rental is available by the park. They also have some fun cottages that are almost floating on the hills in the park. As we headed back towards town we stopped at Perry's Cave and took the kiddos into the cave to check things out. They enjoyed the cave tour.  As you come out of the caves the butterfly garden is right next door. We decided to stop in to check it out.  To my surprise it was fun to see. What a great place for photographers.  Heineman Winery and Crystal Caves was just down the road so one cave just wasn't enough.   We did some wine sampling and the kids got to go check out the cave.  Last stop on the island was to check out the Perry's international peace memorial.  This memorial is amazing. Once you stand up next to it you realize how crazy big this memorial column really is.  Overall, the islands have allot to offer.  Middle Bass Island is a great location for a nice quiet vacation.
